The manuals are listed in chronological order, except in the New Era section, the most recommended New Era manual, a dictionary, as well as an invaluable commentary are listed on the top of the section.
The older Pitman manuals are below the New Era and Pitman 2000 sections.

For Indian students wishing to enter the field of stenography:
First you need to complete the Pitman book to learn the shorthand theory, which will take you around six to ten months. The length of time will depend upon your level of dedication to daily study.
Next you should concentrate on achieving speed, starting with Sir G.D Bisht’s Speedography. There are three volumes, but try to complete at least one volume thoroughly. This will take you at least 2 months. There are many youtube videos and websites that will give you dictation material to help you work on your speed. While you are working on speed, review any part of your shorthand theory that's causing some hesitation. At the end of this, you should be able to write about 60–70wpm.
Finally, if you want to go into legal sector, then there are various legal books of Sir G.D Bisht, which you should practice diligently. If you are into executive work such as SSC, or any other sector other than legal, then go with Kailash Chandra, which has about 24 volumes. Complete each volume step-by-step. If you can manage to complete 5 volumes thoroughly, then you will be writing about 80wpm in executive dictation. This again will take around four to five months.
The total time needed to be ready for your exams comes to about a year to a year and a half.
